Love. It is such an overused word. We can’t possibly love as many things as we say we do. It is so hard to even grasp the true meaning of this word, yet we throw it around so carelessly. Lately, God has been teaching me the true meaning of love and that loving is not an easy thing to do. I guess I’ve always thought I’ve done well to love God, my family, and my friends but now I’m learning that this is actually the easy part. Luke 6:32 says, “Do you think you deserve credit merely for loving those who love you? Even sinners do that!” How can I be any different if all I do is love the people that love me back? I know God is calling me to love those who hate me, those who do nothing for me, those who could care less about me.

I sell shoes to women every day at Dillard’s and every day I meet people and work with people who are extremely hard to love. I just have to remember that I don’t know their stories and I don’t know why they are the way they are and it’s not my job to judge them or to figure out why they are the way they are. My only job is to love them the way Jesus would! To love them even when they don’t deserve it, in hopes that they will see a glimpse of the True Love that flows out of me.
Selfishly, I don’t want to love people who are hard to love but, I have to remind myself that this thing I do every day, called life, is not really about me at all! It is about bringing glory to the creator of the universe! It is not about my being comfortable or feeling good all the time. It is only about God being exalted and receiving the glory He so rightly deserves!

To you who are ready for the truth, I say this:
Love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in
you, not the worst. When someone gives you a
hard time, respond with the energies of prayer for
that person. If someone slaps you in the face stand
there and take it. If someone grabs your shirt,
giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it.
If someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the
occasion to practice the servant life. Live generously.

“The Road To Jericho Is Lined With Starving People”

There’s a man on the side of the road.
Left for dead.
People passing by turn their head.
There’s a man on the side of the road to Jericho.
Needs a friend.
Oh we all could use a little more loving.
Couldn’t we?
So c’mon love.
Give your love away with me.

Hold nothing back.
Like you’ve nothing to lose.
Love with all you have.
Like you don’t have a clue what it’s costing you.

There’s a man on his way to a church.
Avoids the eyes of a dying soul.
He just turns his head.
There’s a child on the side of the road to Jericho.
Needs a friend.
Oh we all could do a little more loving.
Wouldn’t you agree?
So c’mon love.
Give your love away with me.

Hold nothing back.
Like you’ve nothing to lose
Love with all you have.
Like you don’t have a clue what it’s costing you.

If loving were easy it wouldn’t be love.
Oh will you give your love away?
If loving were easy it wouldn’t be love.
I’m gonna give away love.

Will you give your love away?
